What would hurt to run good old Diesel 15-40W in cars. My Honda run all those years and no trouble. With all these newer motor, they only want the 5-20W oil or some even want 0-20W, and they are have engine failures.


The main reason for these light oils is less drag, for better fuel economy. That being said, I've also heard tolerances are closer than they were 30 years ago, so 15-40 might not work out in something requiring 0-20. I think you for sure would be fine in the summertime running 15-40 in something calling for 5-30, but not much more than that. I will not run 5-40 in anything but my Super Duty w/ 6.7, and my 6N with HEUI. 5-40 is not recommended for anything Caterpillar older than 2010 that I'm aware of.
