Faunsdale, AL | I’m in the hand tighten only camp.
I’ve actually had a couple come loose. One was the old Chevy pickup. The oil pressure light came on as I was driving around in the field. Oil level not touching the stick.
Filter wasn’t so loose that it pumped all the oil out immediately. I just hadn’t checked it recently or paid attention to the drip it was leaving in the ground. Tightened it up by hand and put some hydraulic oil in it to get back home!
Also had one in the 9600 that was collecting dust from a seep. Had to wipe it off good with a rag to tighten it more…..by hand!
I didn’t mention, but I hate stuck filters!
Have had spin-on fuel filter that was defective somehow. I was on the road when I changed it and even removing and retightening as tight as possible by hand didn’t stop it. If I had had a wrench available I would have used it that night! Underside of that old F350 and following traffic got a dose of diesel all night before I could get another filter. That one sealed up perfectly when it was tightened hand tight. | |
