| Way back when I started at Deere there was an initial testing class on a Saturday morning that we were told would run from 8 until 1130. There was room for 100 in the room where they had it I got there a little after 730 and there was just a handful there. When I took off my coat and took out a calculator, pen and pencil the guy overseeing the test just smiled, only a few had brought even a pen,,,we started promptly at 8 the room was barely half full,by 830 there were about 90 there and a few more traipsed in over the next hour. There were mostly basic math and safety tests,,,there were a few 15 minute tests on reading blueprints and seeing if someone had ever turned a wrench. Then we had this long test on just about everything that we were allowed 2 hours to finish,at the 45 minute mark I was done and handed it in. By the time I got home I had a message to show up for an interview the next day.
Out of that 100 they hired 16,by the end of the first week they were down to ten,,,when we got sent to second and third shift a couple more quit. Only 4 stayed long enough to retire.
This was back when there weren't a lot of jobs available in the area, the way people can bounce around now it has to be far worse
