I'm nervous about taking the trip over Christmas week to Wisconsin to visit my in-laws, because my mother is in ill health. My sister's are no help. One of them is a trained nursing assistant. Nothing. Mom hasn't had to be picked up yet, but I know it's coming. I've had to sit with her through the night a couple times, because she gets short of breath and then has anxiety attacks.  I picked my dad up a few times in his last few years. I had a nurse friend show me the proper way to do it without hurting him. He fell in the yard once during a rain. There wasn't a good way to do it, but I got it done. He told me I wasn't strong enough with my bad back.( he was 280. I'm 225) I told him," I am however strong I need to be when my family needs me and my back isn't going to be an issue today. I don't care , if you're 500 lbs. I will pick you up." He kept apologizing until I told him it was the least I could after all he'd done for me.
