In my opinion, no, they’re not overpriced. But unfortunately in our society, we put more value on $7 coffee, $70 jeans, $70k suvs, and $700k houses than we do on nutrition.
I think it boils down to something my grandfather told me long ago, that explains a lot of the problems this country faces. “People have never been hungry”. And the fact that you can buy a lb of decent ground beef for less than a fancy cup of coffee kinda highlights that in my mind.
Great post. Right now in my local area the wind chill is -17 F. High tomorrow is forecast at +5F.
As has been said here before, cow/calf is largely a labor of love. However as older guys age out, cow/calf is going to have to be sufficiently profitable or we are not going to have a domestic cattle source for the beef industry and domestic consumers.
The availability of "cheap calves" from small herds has been taken for granted by the rest of the USA beef industry for many years.
