Usps delivers the things that the private companies won't, because they are the things that don't make money. If usps doesn't deliver to the people way out in the country, who will?
As a.side note. There are a lot of fake stamps on the market. But everyone wants to save money. So they use the fake stamps, and then complain usps is losing money.
