Does it make adequate heat when stopped?

If it does and cuts out when driving, pull over quick and feel if hoses are hot or cold.

Assuming it's the deluxe (vacuum controlled) setup, I can't help but wonder if there's something up with the vacuum setup that idle (higher vacuum) masks.

Possibly sucking the return to pump hose flat? I would flow test the core.
