NW Iowa | Hand tight is a loose suggestion for tightening a filter. Some guys are strong as an ox and other guys aren’t all that strong so hand tightening torque can vary wildly. To add to this some filters are located where we just can’t get a good enough grip to even come close to tightening it enough. I usually use a filter wrench to go another 1/8” to 1/4” tighter after hand tightening depending on filter size. Most of us have a thousand or more filter changes under our belts so we know when a filter is tight enough. | |
