USDA subsidy money is siphoned off by out of area land investors while it props up their land values. Bonus points if it’s in CRP.
Then you have the local coop that closed its doors in 1995 and there’s been 6 mergers since so now annual meetings are 120 miles away at their head shed. Don’t count on them supporting the local fair, lions club or FFA because now that they cover 2/3 of the state “that can really add up”.
The whole situation is maddening, and $700m to help people with regenerative ag isn’t anywhere near the biggest problem. | |
