NW Illinois | Illinois version of the program is called - Climate Smart Agriculture Program. It is administered by the Illinois Dept of Ag, not the USDA-FSA or NRCS. The signup period started Mid-October, during the US government shutdown, through an IL Dept of Ag website portal. Program is 3 years no till or strip till, with what was suggested as $35.00/acre annual payment if program conditions are met. Not sure how other states will administer theirs. Here, myself and my customer base for my retail business, only signed up farms that are continuous no till anyways. No acres in my group that would get tilled where added under the premise that no till was going to start on them next year and for 2 more.
Our states signup started mid October, and from what I understand the local counties around me are at max acres applied for, but IL Dept of Ag would know the actual answer. To date, myself or anybody I know who signed up knows if their acres have been accepted into the program.
I don't even know that I would call this a program to change farming practices as a whole. Only major change here is the farmer may not till the gate hole where semis parked for harvest or not fix washouts for next 3 years to avoid violating program rules.
