Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning. | I find it interesting that many non veterans seem to be of the opinion that VA healthcare is redundant and should just be lumped in with general healthcare. If you are one of those, why would you favor it? Less cost? Better care? I've been involved, as a vet, for close to 20 years now. My opinion and that of many other vets, is general healthcare is unaware of common issues with vets. Until recently, the MDs that choose to work in the VA system are highly motivated to watch for issues common to vets and not so common to the general populace. My docs have always made an effort to keep me aware of those issues. At the present, we have something called. "Care in the Community". When we have issues that the local clinic doesn't have the staff to address, then the VA searches out providers to assign us to. These folks are often not cream of the crop and compare poorly to a dedicated VA doc practicing in a local clinic. At least, that's my opinion of many. |
