More similar to chunk barbque charcoal ground up.Briquettes have a binder some a petroleum one.The native pop in tropical regions still build wood fires then smother the pile with dirt and a slow burn happens.They then chunk it up and sell it to people too poor to buy propane ,,or as In jamaica after the hurricane the only item they have to cook with.
