Subject: RE: Moldboard Plowing

Coles County, Illinois
This isn't some replicated controlled experiment but.. I help out the local antique tractor club that has 36 acres that they farm in order to finance the rental and insurance to have an annual show at the local fair grounds. Half of that ground gets plowed each fall. Though the fertility is pretty good from donations the organic matter is much lower than nearby chisel plowed ground. My estimate is that nearby organic matter is near 3% and the plowed ground shows test results near 1%. By spring this plowed ground is hard. If I don't get in there at just the right moisture level I'll need to disk it to plant soybeans.
