Well said, and with a positive outlook. I get a real kick out of all the hand wringing and sky is falling in. You bought them because you can afford them just like a lot of other guys. I have a feeling that you can afford it even if you go backwards a $1000 a head, not that you want to. I raise all my replacements, never buy any, but the same dollars apply to me as opportunity costs. If there is, will be, a market correction, so what, seen it before and the comeback that follows it. I might add, guys that farm more acres or are more diversified probably have this attitude more so that guys that ranch only for a living.


If a person can lose $1000/hd on an investment, it’s called a hobby herd not a business. If that’s the case, I couldn’t care less if you pay $100,000 per critter. Some of us do this for a living, and we try to give solid advice to the younger generation that is going to take your spot in the future.

If a person stacked cash from the last couple years instead of rebuilding, there will be an opportunity to buy 2x the livestock (or more) for the same price within 2 years. Also JMO, time will tell.
