Dirty math here, say an average of 5 calves out of the group, 5 is probably low, but by the time you figure in death loss, early culls etc it’s probably not far off.
Figure $1000 recovery when. You sell her, 4000/5=800
$800 in every calf before bulls, pasture, feed, vet bills etc.
If you’re borrowing throw another 200? In interest on each calf roughly.
Even the guys that say they dollar cost average, I don’t see how to make it work. To my mind, those cattle are going to cause red ink on the balance sheet, IF guys are actually honest with themselves. | |
