Subject: RE: Finisher REMODEL Stainless Steel

Latimer Iowa
We had Thorp stainless steel gating in an auto sort barn when those were the rage in about 2003. We remodeled the autosort in 2006 to a conventional barn went to concrete walls like all my other sites. Sold the stainless steel gating for 10 cents on the dollar. Our penning is 36 inch high concrete walls poured in place. Pigs don't stop and interact with others when going down the alley, and they are virtually indestructible

We have 60 head pens with a Osborne fiberglass/stainless feeder in the middle, a swinging water on each side of the feeder. All concrete walls except the 4' gates which are 3/4 inch fiberglass faced plywood with metal on top and bottom so pigs cant get fiberglass off. Our first barn of this design was built in 1995, Still original feeders, waters, and the concrete walls. I did have to do new plywood gates about 10 years ago. No gate feet to repair, no penning to rust off and get in the pit, no pigs jumping pens, etc. nothing to really wear out. I like the simplest possible, make a system an idiot can run and only a idiot will run it....

Whatever you do do not get the Thorp bladder/diaphragm type water regulators.
