Will never go back to PT. On straight 1/2 mile riws maybe not as much. But we have terraced fields of grass going everywhich way the pt took exactly twice as long to cut as SP, just from constantly turning etc. PT suck in pivot tracks tire falls in and cant get it back out wants to slide around the track.
Seeing what's in front of you is so much nicer. Like running a dozer vs 3pt blade. Not constantly cranked around looking back etc. Once you get older not looking back is nicer.

If doing lots of small odd shaped fields, no brainer SP.

Even on half mile rows its pretty close. My brother and I raced our WDX2302 against our MXM175 with a 1441 discbine on a nice straight and smooth alfalfa field with 1/2 mile passes. I had the self propelled. The tractor had the power to get up to 15 mph while the swather topped out at 12 mph in field gear. He would beat me to the end of the first pass when we started but couldn’t make a round any faster than I could. It just took too long to slow down and turn around and get shifted up again with the discbine. We were surprised because we had always thought that the discbine would be faster in that scenario. I completely agree the self propelled is MUCH nicer to run and much faster on small fields. Works better in waterways too. It’s easier to keep it from gouging.
To answer the original question, we like the New Holland cutterbar design because a single bearing going out won’t total the whole cutterbar. We had a bearing go out in a Deere 956 and it did $5,000 damage in about 5 seconds. That was doing the work ourselves and getting parts as cheap as possible.
