If you are losing your a** feeding an animal and sell it at a low fat market, it doesn't matter what the replacement cost is if you don't have money to buy it back.

It works till it doesn't and then that's why 99% of the farmer feeders in in Iowa of cattle, or sheep, are not in business anymore. Better have a more developed market strategy than that. I wouldn't be buying feeder animals at the prices the last few months thinking of making a profit and that the market can only go up. Cattle to the moon... How many times have we seen the cattle cycle. Guys that pay 2,500 for an animal, feed it for a year, and sell it for 2,000 won't have to worry about buying more.

If you can control the reproduction through the sale of fats is the best way to consistently make a profit. Lot of people refuse to let their lot sit empty because of none business related reasons and more ego then anything. Can be a real pissing match buying at auctions. Not that renting or buying crop land is any different.

As long as feeders drop proportionatly to fats there should still be money to buy them back
