banks of the libhart creek | I guess I’ve never thought of it as a sell buy marketing-never worried about what to call it. but that is what we do on Holstein and Holstein angus calves. We buy 3 day olds straight off a dairy or auction if I’m not getting enough try to buy 5 a week year around. On the flip side I have 5 finished fats a week to sell. Technically I only sell once a month or so but the principle is there.only use the cash market no contracts or anything. I’m 45 this is how we’ve done it my lifetime other than smaller numbers when I was growing up. We do only play with our own money on the cattleif I was borrowing money to buy animals I’d probably worry a lot more but this has worked. I know there are time we’re breaking even or loosing on that animal but there are times we’re making a killing on that animal it all seems to even out I believe there are a lot of small dairy beef feeders like us that do the same |
