If you are losing your a** feeding an animal and sell it at a low fat market, it doesn't matter what the replacement cost is if you don't have money to buy it back.


If you have money borrowed against the animal, then I would agree with you.

If you own the animal outright then I disagree with you.

Buy a calf for $2500 today, feed it for a year and sell it for $2000 looks like a loss, but if you can replace it for less then $2000 plus what the feed cost to feed it a year plus a little profit you are still ahead. IF you own the animal outright.

Your head count remains the same its just your inventory valuation has gone down.

Like Midwest feeder said above there is always something to buy..
