Holland, Indiana (SW IN) | 160 Acres 115 tillable of rolling, cut up, brush, eroded, not so special land coming up at At auction --
No electricity or any utilities available SO will be farm land not 10 acre mini farms
-mile from our home farm ---we farm over quite a few miles between farms --a little over 35 miles end to end
Can't put much advantage for close distance --we handle traveling well
our home farm is about the same type land --
IMO we'll have to plant Cover crops for 10 years and spend $1500/AC on lime and fert to bring it up to our home farms production
Takes a bunch of extra work and time to farm this farm VS square flat land ---NO SQ flat land for sale in our area
I have made a stupid amount of $ from my stock buys over the last 10 years
I can probably sell off 2/3 of my stocks and buy this farm for cash
Will still have IRA money ----invested well there also so retirement looks solid money wise
FWIW I'm 71 --good health--Average life expectancy (71 Year Old WM) 14 more years --85
-have a Son In Law taking over (next generation)
If I sell off Stocks, Mutuals and ETF's I'll have to pay capital gains RIGHT???
I have no needs or wants --- still enjoy playing the game most of the time
Will need no extra equipment ---have enough to add acres
Money invested in this land or stocks ---neither really floats my boat much
Advice Appreciated -- critiques anticipated and accepted
