 Removal rate is still a real thing.  We are removing a physical a commodity that has X pounds of nutrients.  Soil may have thousands of pounds available in the top 6' that roots can tap into that won't be reflected in soil sampling.  Marion Calmer tried this for 20 years on one plot before he finally saw the yields dropping.  I don't disagree that grid samples and spreading to target specific PPM are increasing your ROI because that works here too.  But at some point, whether next week or in 40 years, the soil profile to the depth of the roots will need more physical nutrients.
 
 If you have never farmed a run-down low fertility farm, you may not recognize what it takes long-term.  And on the flip side, if you ever built fertility up on a rented farm that you later lost, you won't want to do it again...BTDT.
