Iowa | I’ve been shocked at the number of fb posts where people were complaining about SNAP getting shut off. It’s kinda opened my eyes that we (eventually) need to revisit this program. You shouldn’t be upper middle class and getting this stuff, maybe it’s an economic thing as In theory they’re spending more on house/car vs food - but there’s also a chunk of them that are sitting at home with no disability (that’s another subject) while we pay for their food.
I think that’s the democratic talking point - each snap $ generates $1.80 in economic activity- and they may have a point as it seems those people aren’t having to pay for food, and yet have the latest phones, go to movies and seemingly have lots of other money to spend. Of course in theory that money is taken from someone else who would have spent it on their own wants, also generating gdp, but in reality the money is printed by the fed, adding debt and inflation for the general public. I’m all for food security, just not paying for things if people are choosing to spend their money on different things. | |
