If you think a Soundgard is loud That wd be wrong. Maybe someone else that's old would remember the Nebraska tractor tests back then.
I thot they measured the decibels in that era because most companies were coming with quieter cabs.
It runs in my mind it was 73 decibels in a 4430 but cd surely be wrong.
Nothing deafening about an 8820 either.
Let's try a late 60s 5020.
The cabs of the 60s were for heat and some air conditioning only. No claim was ever made for sound.
It'd be like comparing a bb gun to a shotgun.
Anyways:
4430 was 82.5 db
IH 86 series was 80 db
IH 88 series was 74 to 78
The 7000/8000/9000 series cabs range from 74 to 81 depending on the application.
Every 10 db is approximately 2x as loud according to the test reports.
To make an 88 and 86 series noticeably quieter, put a sheet of foam under the dash cover and between the engine and firewall. Which after doing that makes the 90s Deere cabs seem loud and now I know it wasn't just me. |
