That is part of the issue in the ag sector right now. Post ethanol boom we’ve rewarded the guys who take the biggest risk. Don’t know how many times I’ve heard “x for rent, 5 year contract they’re gonna go broke”, or “land for xx,xxx / acre, there’s no way they can make it work”. Yet every time there is a hiccup and it doesn’t work for 8 months, Uncle Sam sends out a check to keep the banker at bay, or they reorganize entities and play again.

1980-1999 the most conservative guys were in the best shape, post 2000, the guy who is most aggressive has been the big winner.
