Huh!?! WE WOULD ALL BE DEAF TOO AND HAVE TO TYPE IN CAPS TO BE HEARD BY EVERYONE IF WE DROVE 7720 COMBINES AND DROVE 4430 TRACTORS. THOSE CABS WERE KINDA LOUD FOR BEING SOUNDGUARDS.
Hard to make a 7720 quiet when you are sitting right next to and on top of the engine. But they were that way for several reasons: simpler drive train, weight and balance, much lower cost.
Moving the engine to the rear and centering the cab had some advantages such as quieter and larger cab and counterbalance of larger corn heads, but greatly increased cost, weight and complexity of combines.
There is no free lunch.
