 Soil splash up on flowers doesn't cause white mold. Appothecia expel spores into the air that can travel for miles.
 
 I agree on the soil splash thing- as long as there's no spores that the soil is carrying to infect the flowers. If there are, or even just giving the spores a clear path via no residue to hold it down, you might have potential for infection. But- we're talking inches. Not feet and not miles. Or even feet.
 
 Very first time I've ever heard this long-distance infection potential, however.  You have any research data to back this up?
