We don’t need to be buying new phones every year or every other year either, people are ridiculous about that and phone companies feed into it offering free new iPhone “if you switch to them”! Had mine for 5 years plus and the one before that for almost 10 years if people didnt have a such a relentless desire for the newest nicest fanciest things all the time it wouldn’t be near as big of a deal.
