Subject: Question for the rye growers

North Central Illinois
I have an ~5 acre odd patch that I planted rye on at the beginning of September. My intent is to harvest seed next summer. I've never planted it this early before and with the warm fall it has gotten really thick. Is there concern about too much growth going into winter causing issues like with red clover that it can smother itself under the snow? It is about 6" tall and there's zero bare dirt visible even though it is on 8" rows.

Somewhat related question being will grazing it this fall hurt grain yield potential? I have some ewes grazing right beside it and could easily fence it to strip graze.
