Big Sky Country | Had a buckrake made outa 3/4 ton ford. Bumper was grader blades one flat, one verticle. Was jumping it, leaned into truck with one foot on the ground—-started it, it was in compound, lurched ahead before I reacted. Bumper no give, door now against it.
Door now kinda part shut on leg—-put a dent in inside of it.
Truck now in bind, can’t jerk gearshift outa gear.
Contort, try to reach clutch one hand, gearshift the other.
Not that limber. Finally got gearshift jerked out, put in reverse, another lurch.
When blood started circulating —-the pain came with it. Lucky, dandy bruise, nothing broke.
Another deal, snowy, ford ranger ran thru my fence, was on its side, baby clothes scattered for 100 yards.
Not thrilled to be first one there. But—native was alone, had slide across seat, door musta come open, his leg got out, door shut—and latched,
Roof all smashed down, ambulence showed up, had a hacksaw. Slow go. Got them to put a blanket over him and chopped it off with a Pulaski.
The guy was a quick thinker—-asked him if he’d been drinking.
‘Not till them Huetterites showed up—-they gave me some wine and went for help. “ Huh. 6” of snow and no other tracks.
This dudes foot was almost turned backwards when it was sticking out door—-ambulence got him to hospital—no broken bones—-while they were doing paperwork he strolled out the back door. Mr. Comesatnight—-if you party with him, maybe you drive.
