Subject: RE: Know those pictograms of no starter jumping screwdriver?

Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS

I started doing field work at 8 years old on a JD 520 and a JD 3010. The 520 left the next year and a 4010 took its place. Even at that young age I always put the transmission in PARK before I shut off the engine. Yes, I have used the screwdriver trick to start those old tractors, but they were ALWAYS in PARK before anything else was done. Even today if I'm starting a vehicle/tractor that has a clutch I will push the clutch in along with making sure the transmission is in neutral/park before hitting the starter. Those are long ingrained habits learned from my youth. Those precautions have served me well.

It is in situations like this that the advice of Wyatt Earp is instructive: "Be in a hurry, but take your time."
