Subject: RE: Thoughts on supplemental basement heat

Milford, IL
Home was originally single story with a large attic. Attic was converted to two bedrooms and a bath about 20 years ago, insulation up there is good. Main floor insulation is mostly original except for kitchen/dining room which was also remodeled 20 years ago. Heating bills are reasonable, and the main and top floors are comfortable in the winter.

Basement windows are mostly new, I have two more yet to replace. Main floor windows are old - not drafty but Im sure not as efficient as new. Upstairs windows are new.

Basement ceiling height is 7'6", vents and returns are both located overhead. Not enough height for ceiling fans and I don't like them anyway. Hot water in the slab would be awesome but not happening, too much labor.

I appreciate the conversation and advice. I had also considered hot water baseboard heat with a loop off the gas fired water heater, would prefer to avoid electrical resistance heat, gas is way cheaper than electric here.
