Any oil made from petroleum is very hard on shoes. Some neatsfoot oil is partly petroleum based and is no good. Pure neatsfoot oil is made from the fat of cow legs. That fat becomes stiff at a much lower temperature than beef tallow. That is why a cow can stand in the cold with thin legs without freezing them. It also penetrates leather better than any other product because leather and neatsfoot oil both come from a cow. Nothing is better.
