Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | I had a total knee replacement 6 wks ago, everything went fine, I just wish the recovery period would speed up, but that isn't anything which I can control.
We are still on my wife's medical insurance thru her job. The bills are starting to roll in now. I always get a kick out of how the doctors and hospitals have the "submitted charges", then it lists "allowed charges", and then the co-pay which we pick up. So I assume that the national insurance company somehow sits down and negociates with someone (the network?) what the discounted final figure will be.
My question: How does Medicare A and B's negociated prices compare to the private insurance company's negociated prices? About the same, more or less? Bottom line question: Is the doctor getting paid same, more or less for doing a surgical procedure being covered by Medicare vs. a national private health insurance company, for the exact same procedure?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
Thanks in advance. Bruce. |
