Here when I was really poor(not just reg poor as now) I cut as much Hack as I could find to use in ground contact boarding ,sill plates etc.It is not perfect but if you treat it a tad it lasts as well as cedar here.Hack is Tamarack is Larch,is hackmatack .Got a disease now ,very few left in this county.As a pole in the soil I have seen it last 30 years.
