We are working on a hull/millscreen load out building. Similar to flat storage at an ethonal plant for DDG’s but I am lowering the truck park area 4 foot to make loading with an endloader easier. Have seen this in some feedlots and actually at our local trash transfer station. Footings are in. Will be a 26’ tall, 22’ in the storage area, 80x100 steel building. Oat hulls have a low bulk density so are frequently hauled on high sided trailers. Many of our farmer investors want to back haul hulls for their livestock as well.
Roof is poured on 2/3 of the slip form, have to swing in the finished product bins before can finish the roof. Finished product bins sit on third floor so need to finish those floor pours first. Pics of progress inside.
Tariffs on various items have added 3 million to the project cost. Very frustrating getting invoices with tariff charges.
We have a USDA guaranteed loan with a regular bank. With the government shutdown that is now paused. It’s not even a loan from USDA but a loan guarantee to allow us to be at a 30% equity level instead of higher for a regular loan. Hard to pay contractors when guarantee, and thus disbursements are paused.
Seems counterintuitive that the turmoil in DC is making it tough for a farmer owned facility with domestically sourced product, producing healthier food for consumers. Between tariffs, additional capital requirements as European companies pulled their US investments, and general uncertainties from shifting governmental sand it’s a lot of fun****. It’s a challenge when things change daily depending on what side of the bed someone woke up on.
With all the turmoil and tariffs we are raising equity with sale of some additional of our founder stock. Not what we wanted to use contingency for, but there is a reason we kept the option there.
Please keep questions from getting too political and preferably construction (constructive***) so the thread doesn’t get deleted. We are generally pretty neutral but the political discord and bickering is tiring.
