Ft. Ripley MN | So the last few years I’ve been selling freezer beef. Mainly just a few but did more this year with rumblings of more people wanting some next year. All done word of mouth. Wholes or halves at this point. Try to stay clear of quarters unless they have a friend to speak for the other quarter. This past year I went to asking for a sizable down payment(about 40 ish % of overall projected value). No one complained a bit.
Been wanting to try one or two as retail boxes before a major summer holiday. Plan was to put it out when I ask for beef orders In January. I do this so I keep back what’s sold and nothing extra from the calf crop. Plan was to presell a certain number of boxes with a down payment.
Any holes in this plan or any experience from those that do retail beef sales? I want to stick to mostly halves and wholes but if I can entice a few potential customers in with some retail boxes… sell some breeding stock every year but for those that don’t make the cut I would just assume extract there potential value myself. Cattle won’t be this high forever. Thanks
I should add I see this as a potential opportunity with feeding out the cull cows and selling them for burger as well. | |
