Subject: Feed Yard plannig

Lucan ON

Looking for some do's and dont's for a feed yard. We are looking moving away from silage bags and wondering how big of a cement pad to build? We currently are buying diary calves and raising them right through to finish. Working with out nutritionist we have roughly 120 hd weights 550-near finished projected to be on rations requiring corn silage and figure 600-700 tons a year required. Also how much of an advantage would we see putting up high moisture corn vs dry corn? I have the grain dryer and bins for dry but drying isnt cheap and would speed our harvest up if we could start at 30% and just grind and pile the corn on the pad as well beside the corn silage. Any feed back is appreciated
