Kansas | I liked rounds when I did the feeding. When the numbers grew, and over stocked our winter pastures, and had other people helping, a feed wagon became much easier.
A dedicated feeding area helped save the pasture.
We feed in the late afternoon and it was hard to get it all done before dark
Now we have feeding pens. In the morning doing first check I lock the cows away from the bunks. Then the feed wagon can feed any time. Then we can turn the cattle in later in the afternoon. We don’t lock them in so they can still go back out when they are done eating.
For us, it has really helped. Plus we can feed much poorer feed. We have a tub grinder come for dry hay, have some silage, and can add some corn if need to.
Probably the best plus for us is it lets us back ground our calves all winter beings the feed wagon is going anyway. | |
