Subject: RE: Thread on double alley

Dodge, NE
couldn't disagree more. there is 3 big advantages to a double alley. 1 being double the head capacity in your alley not in your tub. 2 cattle in a "Herd" experience lower Cortisol levels. so a double alley needs to allow cattle to see each other in both sides. 3 you have a 6ft wide hole coming out of your tub or bud box vs the standard 3 ft wide of a single alley.

most double alleys that are straight designs do exactly what your talking about with a short double alley which causes two problem one cattle can see the combiner or the 2-1 from the tub and its a solid sheeted wall to them of coarse they don't want to go into an alley that does not have an exit. secondly what's the point of the extra expense when you only gain a few head extra capacity?

you need have cattle flow around a curve, Keep there feet moving. sound doesn't travel down a curve like it does a straight alley, and a well designed tub or bud tub that funnels correctly into a double alley eliminates the "cattle seem to only use one side " argument.

the numbers are proven in an efficient system with 3 guys you can process up to 240 head an hour! obviously this number depends on what your doing to them at the chute specifically and what your pens look like behind the system. but none the less the system is never the reason for how fast you can work cattle.

there is lots of opinions out there and that's fine. i encourage anybody to go look at these systems in persons before they make a decision. i am located in NE Nebraska by all means fly in ill pick you up at the airport and we can go look at any style design you wish with in a 40 mile radius our stuff or not. and ill guarantee our facilities out perform any other system out there as far as head per hour.
