NEMO | I think the key to a double alley is to have enough single alley between it and the chute to hold all the cattle you plan to run into the double alley!
So if your double alley is 10 feet long then you need 20 feet of single alley going to the chute, plus the room for the transition from double to single. So only run the number of animals that can comfortably fit in the single alley. Don't try to fill the single and the double alley at the same time. Use the double as a funnel only from the tub or bud box to the single alley for the best cattle flow.
We have a tub feeding a double alley. The cattle start into the double alley fairly easily. The problem is the transition and then the single alley. We need the single alley a lot longer to make the cattle flow better.
Another problem with almost all the systems I've been around is that people want to run a big group into a tub, bud box (or whatever you got) but there is only room for about 3 head. Cattle just seem to work better in groups of 3. Or at least that has been my experience here. | |
