Subject: Corn Head feelers for steering

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have the Headsight Truesight II feeler system on my Deere 608C head. The Truesight II system controls my Ag Leader Steady Steer motor during corn harvest and turns the steering wheel for me.

These feelers are designed to deflect slightly as they brush between rows 2 & 3. The width of the feelers is adjustable. The instructions suggest setting them 1" wider than the row spacing so they make contact with both rows at all times. When doing our preseason check this year we found they were slightly less than 31" so we adjusted them somewhat wider.

They seem to work fine with normal populations. Two years ago we had some spots where the population was sparse due to flooding. I had to turn the system off when going through those areas since there were some areas where there was a plant in one row but not a corresponding plant in the next row. This meant that the feeler assembly was not centered between the rows and the system would throw the steering left and then right. The solution was simple, turn off the system until I again reached an area of normal population.
