I don't think you're going to have much benefit from a mixture especially if weed control is one of your main goals.

Here you could get a thick stand of rye established at 50lbs per acre if your seeding it and 60 if you're broadcasting it on. I've also used wheat at 60-70 pounds on fields where it is the rotation as a cash crop to prevent problems if my rye goes to seed. If you are lacking moisture I would wait and drill it. If you have a good chance of significant rain it might be worth it to use the airplane. I'm in the same situation personally and hate the idea of spending the extra money for the airplane if nothing is going to come up until it rains anyway.
