Planting a cover crop is not going to improve your late season weed control.
Keep it simple Rye at 2 bu and acre or more and terminate with sufficent biomass to get you early season weed control. Will control your first flushes of weeds but you need to get a strong residual otherwise when the biomass breaks down you will have nothing to hold the weeds back and in non GMO that is no good.
PPO of choosing valor or authority with a yellow or group 15 along with any burndown chemistry you need for stuff that grew with the rye. Follow back with prefix and clethodim or an ALS either on your pre or post depending on weed spectrum. Pursuit is cheap. May need harmony or other ALS depending on what comes through.
It's been a while since I have disagreed with you but here we are.
If there is significant biomass that has lignified it will last all season and suppress the weeds by being a mat. Probably won't block all but it will defiantly help. |
