ecmn | I’m not saying diseases don’t exist or that we’ll ever eliminate them. They are part of nature and always will be. My point is simple: if crops and soils today are as healthy as we claim, then why do we constantly need multiple passes of fungicide, insecticide, and herbicide, lots of tillage and fertilizer inputs just to get a crop across the finish line?
Back in the past, diseases flared up but didn’t devastate every year. Today, we’re stacking more and more issues on top of each other. That suggests something in our system has changed.
I’m not claiming to have all the answers that’s why I ask questions. Because if the current approach hasn’t cured a single disease in over 60 years, instead stacking new ones to fight, then isn’t it worth asking if we could be doing something better/ different?
And if we have evidence from other sectors of people being successful, why would we not want to learn from that and copy that?
