Bow Island, Alberta | I read about corn farmers harvesting 3-5000 bushels per hour, filling their combine hopper 8 or 10 times per hour.
What about the opposite end of the spectrum? I’m harvesting a hybrid canola field for pedigreed seed production and it didn’t pollinate very well. It’s taking me about 2 hours to fill the hopper on my Case 8250.
I have neighbours that grow alfalfa for seed. Sometimes they only get 3-400 pounds per acre (5-8 bushels per acre). It looks like they travel at a break neck speed of 1-2 mph with a 30’ header. At that rate, it looks like it might take a full day to fill their hopper.
