Morris, Mb.
We have been growing beans in the RRV of Manitoba since 1998. We have had them froze off once in the fall in all that time and that was a freak frost in the beginning of August. With the new genetics, you can have beans ready the same time as canola. We grow some .003 beans for seed production that are usually off in August. This year we are starting tomorrow if it doesn’t rain. In 5 years they have never yielded under 55 bu/ac and been as high as 70. Normally we grow .008 or so. Beans are cheaper to grow and generally more profitable than canola for us.
