Subject: RE: The myth of no-till

oh we have burr cukes out west, some have it growing in fencelines, oblivious to it, but in 3 years it will take over like kudzu down south. no-tillers need to know their lane, sure they look like geniuses on their low cation soils, but heavy soils like peat and that separates the men from the boys. pre`s do very little on cukes, they germinate all summer from 4" down, you have to spray often and late to control cukes, there`s just no other answer.

back in the heavy tillage days of mold board plowing, disc, digger and plant in the last half of may and row cultivate 3 times, that did help hold them down. the change in tillage only shifts weed problems. those with a < 10 cec can put down corvus or resicore and say "i don`t know wwwwhat you`re talking about...i don`t have annnny cucumber problems and i`m a no-tiller seated on the righthand side of God". :-)
