I would use that double clevis link you refer to if it were mine. That's assuming it's a chain that may be used for lifting and you really want assurance your home mfg chain won't let you down. They have a rating that you can probably count on vs none.

For instance, the peened 3/8" chain link has a 2650# rating, while the double clevis has a 6000# safe working load limit. I realize these ratings may be somewhat arguable, but they're not even close on lb comparison.
