Here is a link with a few options. The last one is as close as I’ve seen to your picture as currently new. I have seen the repair link in your picture before, but they were already installed on old log chains.
Me here, if using a cold shunt (the first one) I weld the end after mushrooming it out. I weld the last one as well once hammered close.
1- chain grab hook, maybe clevis grab hook. What is pictured is what I use. Very simple. They also make repair links that are cast with a pin on both sides for reconnecting broken chain as well. TSc, RK, most farm stores carry this style, as pictured.
